How much of your company's marketing budget gets spent online?
In the fishing industry, the answer is usually, not much, or we're working on it.
According to Laura Desmond (no relation to me), chief executive of Starcom MediaVest, the media planning arm of Publicis, the mega ad agency conglomerate, the industry is heading into a “50-50 world” in which half of revenues go to digital and interactive campaigns.
As Henry Blodget points out on Silicon Alley Insider, that would have been a laughable idea a few years ago. Now it hardly warrants a shrug. The Internet is the finest medium ever invented for marketing. Sadly, it's wreaking havoc in formerly outstanding media, like tv, newspapers and network TV. But it is also allowing companies big and really small to market much, more efficiently.
